When photographing flowers, try sticking with just one subject. Resist the urge to jump from one bloom to the next. Instead, take your time and truly explore a single flower.

Move around it. Change your angles. Experiment with different perspectives. Let each shot build on the previous one. Small, steady improvements—step by step—lead to your strongest images.

In fact, the first five or even ten shots are rarely your best. The magic often happens later, once you’ve slowed down and started seeing more creatively.

I recently spent over half an hour with a single flower, and as expected, my best images came toward the end of that session.
